Dr. Maheswaran brings over 25 years of experience teaching at Northeastern University, where he pioneers creative approaches to engineering education, emphasizing sustainable, project-based learning. His research focuses on the innovative design of energy and medical engineering systems, with a strong emphasis on prototyping and proof of concept. He advocates for transforming engineering education by moving beyond traditional classroom models, promoting project-driven, concept-oriented, team-based, and integrated learning approaches that reflect real-world challenges. Dr. Maheswaran has also guided numerous students to ASEE conferences, enriching their educational journeys and connecting them to the professional community. An inspiring educator, he has earned several prestigious awards throughout his career. Notably, he contributed to the landmark ASEE report A Vision for Change in Undergraduate Engineering and Engineering Technology Education: The Inclusive Engineering Mindset.
He also developed two Dialogue of Civilizations (DOC) programs: one offered in Silicon Valley and the other in various regions of Greece. The goal is to provide students with experiential, global learning opportunities that prepare them to become responsible global citizens, equipped to address future challenges in a sustainable way.
