Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Maheswaran has earned a remarkable collection of accolades and honors. In 2024, he was named COE Distinguished Professor and recognized as an ASEE Distinguished Member. In 2023, he received the Faculty Fellowship and the Outstanding Faculty Service Award. In 2022, he was inducted into the prestigious Twenty-Five-Year Associate group by the President of Northeastern University. TASME honored his outstanding contributions by naming an award after him during its 24th, 25th, and 26th years. In 2021, Dr. Maheswaran was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award by TASME. His active involvement in the ASEE community has earned him multiple accolades, including Best Student Paper Awards, the Distinguished Educator and Service Award in 2013, and the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Northeast Section of ASEE in 2018.

As an engaging educator, Dr. Maheswaran has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Northeastern University First-Year Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award on two occasions, as well as his nominations for the Northeastern University “Excellence in Teaching Award” in 2013 and 2011. He also received a Special Recognition Award from the student chapters of BESS (Black Engineering Student Society), SWE (Society of Women Engineers), and SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) at Northeastern University. Additionally, he received a Special Recognition Award from the student chapters of BESS, SWE, and SHPE in 2011. His impact extends beyond academia, Dr. Maheswaran’s pioneering work also resulted in a US patent on High Tc Superconductors in 1997, complemented by early achievements such as the Invention Incentive Award and the Advanced Research Award from Northeastern University in 1994.
