With over twenty-five years of teaching experience, Dr. Maheswaran, a distinguished faculty member at Northeastern University’s College of Engineering, has made substantial contributions to the field. His extensive body of work includes authoring over a hundred and thirty publications, spanning original research, education-related papers, conference proceedings, workshops, and panel discussions. Dr. Maheswaran is a founding member and program chair of the Data Science and Analytics Constituent Committee of the ASEE, and he serves as Zone 1 Chair on the Council of Sections | Board of Directors of the American Society for Engineering Education. Additionally, he co-chairs the annual TASME conference, holds the position of Director for the Engineering Division at ATINER, and has a remarkable history of leadership in organizing national and international conferences. Despite global challenges, his exceptional leadership ensured the success and high attendance of these events, underscoring his significant impact on the field. Dr. Maheswaran’s distinguished career has been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Northeastern University First-year Engineering Outstanding Teaching Award, received twice, and the Special Recognition Award by NU student chapters of BESS, SWE, and SHPE. His achievements extend to the ASEE Northeast Section Outstanding Teaching Award, multiple Best Student Paper Awards, and the ASEE Division Distinguished Educator and Service Award. Nominations for the ASEE National Distinguished Teaching Award and ASEE Fellow highlight his exceptional contributions. TASME recognized him during its 24th to 26th-year award ceremonies, presenting named awards. In 2021, he received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into Northeastern University’s Twenty-Five-Year Associate group in 2022. He also earned the College of Engineering’s Outstanding Faculty Service Award and a Faculty Fellowship in 2023.

Dr. Maheswaran received his M.S. and Ph.D. in experimental solid state Physics, and MSEE in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Northeastern University.

Current Research: Experiential Engineering Education via Innovation and Invention. Focus on the Technical Design, Energy System, and Medical Engineering (MedEng) Design Innovations via Prototyping and Proof of Concept. Past Research: High-Temperature Superconductors, Two-Dimensional Electron Gas, and Engineering Physics Education.

Throughout his illustrious career, Dr. Maheswaran has amassed a remarkable collection of accolades and honors. In 2023, during his Faculty Fellowship (sabbatical), he was granted the Fellowship Fund and bestowed with the Outstanding Faculty Service Award. In 2022, he marked his induction into the prestigious Twenty-Five Year Associate group by the Northeastern University President. The TASME recognized his outstanding contributions by naming an award after him for the 24th, 25th, and 26th years. In 2021, Dr. Maheswaran was honored with The Lifetime Achievement Award from TASME. His active engagement in the ASEE community resulted in multiple awards, including the Distinguished Educator and Service Award in 2013, and the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Northeast Section of the ASEE in 2018. Additionally, he received recognition as an Energy and ABET Panelist for several years and served on the ASEE Chester F. Carlson Award Committee. Dr. Maheswaran’s dedication to education is further highlighted by his recognition as the Outstanding Teacher of First Year Engineering Students in 2013 and 2001, as well as being a nominee for the Northeastern University “Excellence in Teaching Award” in 2013 and 2011. His impact extended beyond academia, evidenced by accolades from student societies in 2011, and his pioneering work resulted in a US Patent on High Tc Superconductors in 1997, complemented by early achievements like the Invention Incentive Award and the Advance Research Award from Northeastern University in 1994.
